150 Hummingbirds

Ruby-throated hummingbird, Archilochus colubris

David Sibley in his book “What it’s like to be a bird” writes: “A rough rule of thumb for estimating the total number of hummingbirds using your feeder is to count the most birds you see at any one time and multiply by ten”

If that’s true, then we are feeding between 150 and 200 hummingbirds!  After dinner last night I saw over 15 hummingbirds swarming our feeder.
