Chipping Sparrow, Spizella passerina
If you are walking around the PGT Visitor Center you are almost certain to hear the loud call of Chipping Sparrows; they nest there every year.
Most sparrows are pretty boring to look at; but with it’s persimmon-red cap and white eye strip the Chipping Sparrow is attractive. I’ve tried several times to photograph them by the PGT Center but they never cooperated. This bird I photographed on on the west side of the Dog Leg Prairie today.
