This morning I came across a small flock of Tree Sparrows feeding in the weeds along the edge of Beaver Lake.

Sparrows can be hard to identify. In the past I’d dismiss them as LBJ’s (little brown jobs). This winter I’m taking a closer look and enjoying learning more about them.

With this picture you can see the “charcoal smudge of a breast spot” which helps with identification. You can also see the ruddy cap and rusty eye-line.
