Siberian Iris, (Iris sibirica)
The goal of the PGT is to show off the beauty of native species.
So how do we deal with all the exotic species that we have?
If they are invasive we seek them out and kill them. That is what Matt and Duncan are doing right now with the Autumn Olive, Multiflora Rose and Bush Honeysuckle.
But how should we deal with plants like the Siberian Iris?
Herb (my father and the founder of the PGT) loved Siberian Iris and planted them in scattered areas around the property. So far they seemed to have stayed in their place. In contrast the Japanese Yellow Iris (Iris pseudacorus) that was planted around the ponds can be found in the drainages below the ponds; it’s spreading and it needs to be killed. For now I think we should just watch the Siberian Iris and enjoy it.
