Twenty members of the Bittersweet Garden Club of Jefferson City held their monthly meeting at the Prairie Garden Trust on August 19. It was the first group to use the meeting room since we carpeted it to cut the sound level/echo effect and it worked well. We headed out on the trail to loop around the lotus and waterlily ponds, then across the prairie past blooming sweet coneflower, a few final purple coneflowers, blue sage, and the grasses (Indian grass, big bluestem, little bluestem). Although the sweat-factor was pretty high (it was August in Missouri after all), the group made the whole loop. It’s a very active garden club with a relatively young set of members. We expect to see several return in other seasons for other blooms—and cooler air.
