Black Walnut, (Juglans nigra)

Black Walnuts are very common at the PGT in the rich bottomland soils along our creeks. Many nuts are produced every year but I tend not to eat them because they are very hard to open. Another reason I don’t like to work with them is that there are chemicals in the drupes (the outer part of the nut) that stain your hands brown.
