Bumblebee on Buttonbush

Bombus, Cephalanthus occidentalis
Bumblebee feeding on Buttonbush

Buttonbush is a wonderful flowering shrub that is great for attracting butterflies. It also attracts different kinds of bees. Today I photographed this bumblebee foraging for breakfast.

Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis )likes to be near water. The main plants in bloom now at the PGT are those along the edges of our ponds and lakes.

Native bees like the bumblebee appear to be vanishing over much of the globe. The Bumblebee Specialist Group (BBSG)is working to assess how serious this threat is.
