Downy Phlox, Phlox pilosa I was surprised to find this blooming yesterday at the PGT. Normally it blooms in mid-April.

Redbud, Cercis canadensis Redbuds are in peak bloom now. This small native tree is a nice compliment to other flowering spring trees.

Virginia Bluebell, Mertensia virginica This is a good time to look for these wildflowers in the woods. Look in shady areas near creeks.
Barred Owl
Barred Owl, Strix varia We’ve been hearing a pair of Barred Owls calling below our house for the past month. I think they are nesting now.
Spring Beauty
Spring Beauty, Claytonia virginica Yesterday I saw a Zebra Swallowtails feeding on these flowers. I don’t remember seeing Zebra Swallowtails so early in the year.
