Common Buckeye

Common Buckeye, Junonia coenia

One of the more attractive butterflies I’ve been seeing this week is the Common Buckeye. The big “eyespots” on the wings makes them easy to identify.

At the PGT you can find them in open areas; just look for a patch of flowers that can offer them some nectar. This one is feeding on prairie blazing star, a favorite of many butterflies.
