Common Milkweed

Common Milkweed, Asclepias syriaca

Milkweed is now in full bloom, drawing in a variety of butterflies with its nectar. But its most vital role is as a host plant for Monarchs – its leaves are the only food Monarch caterpillars can eat. Sadly, I’ve only spotted one Monarch so far this year. Let’s hope more are on the way.
