Common Sunflower, (Helianthus annuus)

One of the many yellow summer flowers is this one, called Common Sunflower. Most of the sunflowers here are perennials but this one is an annual. I planted the seeds for it last year to fill in some of the new spaces we have been opening up along the edges of the forest.

Common Sunflower is the state flower for the sunflower state: Kansas.
