Crested Iris at Shaw Nature Reserve

Iris cristata
Crested Iris (Iris cristata)
I found this clump of Crested Iris in bloom today along the hiking trails of Shaw Nature Reserve. I spent three hours exploring the Whitmire Wildflower Garden and several of the trails. I’m looking for ideas to use here at the PGT. I want to see how they do things and try to understand why. They are a model for what we want to be, they are a garden within a natural area.

I was impressed by the planting of Crested Iris around these rocks right along the trail. Normally I find Crested Iris to be rather dull but the rocks made the plantings work.
