Our dog covered with stick-tights (Desmodium cuspidatum)
The severe drought this summer was not bad in all ways.
4 good things about the drought:
1. No Stick-tights
There are no stick-tights to cover our pants and the dogs. Stick-tights are those nasty velcro covered seeds that annoy us every Fall. It turns out that Stick-tights aren’t around in droughts.
2. No Spider Webs
With the insect population down the spiders don’t have anything to feed on, hence no webs. Typically in late summer orb weaver spiders have webs over many trails in the woods. If you aren’t careful you will find yourself with the sticky webs on your face.
3. No Deer Flies
LIke most insects the deer flies are hard to find this year. That is nice on walks because deer flies like to land on my head and try to bite my scalp. One of the reason I always wear a hat is to keep deer flies off.
4. Low Humidity
With no rain since May the humidity was much lower than normal. That made the high temperatures feel much cooler than usual.
