White Oak, Quercus alba

As leaves break out of their buds in the Spring they can show surprising colors. This image from today shows a cluster of white oak leaves just emerging. They are no bigger than the tip of your little fingernail.

We are lucky that White Oaks are the most common tree at the PGT. They are beautiful and can become majestic in old age; I’ve read that they can live 600-years.
