Cryptogamic soil crust at The Point
The rocky bluffs that offer great views at the PGT are carpeted with a very fragile soils. It feels like an extremely thick carpet if you walk on it. It is a very thin layer of moss, lichen and organic debris right on top of rock.
When you walk on it the moss and lichen can be killed.
We are trying to decide how to deal with this as we start to have more visitors to the PGT. Will we have to block off those areas? Or perhaps build a viewing platform above them?
