I snapped this picture today walking down to the mailbox to pick up our mail. The common name for this plant is Henbit. It is native to Europe, Northern Africa and Western Asia.
Since the PGT is a native plant garden we typically seek out and destroy most exotics. However, this species has not caused problems and it offers a welcome splash of color over many of the farm fields in the early spring. At the PGT it is only seen along the roads.
