Queen Anne’s Lace, (Daucus carota)
John George would bend over to weed out a Queen Anne’s Lace whenever we paused on our hike here a couple weeks ago. As a natural history biologist there was no question in his mind that it should be removed because it is an exotic plant.
The mission of the PGT is to inspire people by letting them experience the beauty of nature found in a variety of enhanced native habitats. Should those native habitats be totally free of exotic plants? Some plants are not only exotic but also invasive; plants like Autumn Olive, Multilfora Rose and Bush Honeysuckle. It is easy to decide to eliminate them, if we didn’t they would take over! But what about less aggressive exotics like Queen Anne’s Lace?
Queen Anne’s Lace is in full bloom now. It is most noticeable on the road sides as you drive up to the PGT but it is also blooming in our prairies now.
