American Lotus, Nelumbo lutea

The lotus leaves are rising and opening, catching the morning light in waves of green and blue. I was struck by the rhythm and elegance of their shapes—the way the light and shadow played across their surfaces.

At the Prairie Garden Trust, July is the best time to catch the lotus flowers in full bloom, but even now their leaves are a show in themselves.
