New Walk along the Lilies

New-Pond-Path-Developing_9876

Thanks to the design of Jen Sieradzki, horticulturist for the PGT, a new path is in the works at the Lotus Pond area. Plants will be added in September, but last week big progress was made when David Perrey came out with heavy equipment while Jen, Matt Barnes and Robert Hemmelgarn did the shovel-work to build up a walking path.

Now the large rock ledge that Herb Domke placed above the ponds he built 40 years ago is visible again. Matt spent lots of time last year whacking back the cattails that hid the rocks. Jen is working on a new design for the Lotus Pond area as she and Matt continue to weed and reveal views of the ponds of water lilies and lotus.

Cindy Tyler,  landscape architect from Terra Design Studio, will be back for a visit in September to discuss the layout of a new paved walking trail that will loop from the visitor center to Beaver Lake and the Lotus Ponds. The new unpaved path by the rocks will be a little side trail. It will also make an appealing view from the main trail across the pond.Lotus-Ponds-Rock-Garden-Construction_9878
