There are 7 different kinds of Woodpeckers at the PGT. Only the Northern Flicker routinely feeds while on the ground; apparently going after ants and grubs. Today I noticed them feeding west of our house. The behavior reminds me of the way Robins feed on lawns.
I went out to investigate and was able to get this picture. Notice the black “mustache”; just as in humans that identifies the bird as being a male.
