Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon)
You probably will never see a snake while you are strolling at the PGT. If you do see one near one of the ponds there is a good chance that it is the harmless Northern Water Snake. I photographed this one sunning itself recently in the Lotus Ponds. People often mistakenly identify this as a Water Moccasin and kill them.
The only venomous snakes you might see is the Copperhead but they are rare. I’ve not seen one in a decade and I’m out almost every day. Snakes are part of the environment at the PGT and we respect them.
