Prairie Blazing Star

Prairie Blazing Star, Liatris pycnostachya

The prairies are dense with wildflowers this year. They appreciate all the rain we’ve had.  In this picture you can see the purple spikes of Prairie Blazing Star, the yellow flowers of Gray-headed Coneflower and in the background out-of-focus are the grey-green flowers of Rattlesnake Master.

On our walk on Sunday Lorna and I identified 26 different kind of wildflowers on our walk along the path at the edge of the prairie.
