Today we’re going to burn the 43-acre prairie on the northern edge of the Prairie Garden Trust (PGT). Controlled burns are a wildly popular land management tool. After 3 decades of experience with burns we’ve learned that there are some downsides. They often kill the trees, shrubs and insects that we are trying to encourage. With carefully constructed fire lines and an experienced burn crew we hope to keep unintended damage to a minimum.
