Red Buckeye

Red Buckeye, Aesculus pavia

The showy red flowers of this native shrub attract ruby-throated hummingbirds and bees. They start blooming in late April, right around the time the hummingbirds arrive. This can easily be grown from seed and may flower as early as the second or third year.

At the PGT you can find them blooming now by the visitor center and along the sidewalks in the woods.
