Ruby-throated Hummingbird on Devil’s Walkingstick

Archilochus colubris, Aralia spinosa
Ruby-throated Hummingbird, (Archilochus colubris)

Today I noticed movement at the top of a flowering native shrub. It was a Ruby-throated hummingbird feeding on the flowers of Devil’s Walkingstick (Aralia spinosa).

Yesterday I showed a picture of the Great Blue Heron rookery. Great Blue Heron’s are the largest bird here at the PGT with a wingspan of up to 79-inches. In contrast the Ruby-throated hummingbird is our smallest bird, with a wingspan of just 4-inches.
