Yesterday the bright red stalks that holds the fruit of the Sassafras tree caught my eye. What a wonderful contrast to the dark blue fruits. 

Sassafras is a common small understory tree. At the Prairie Garden Trust, you are most likely to find it growing in small clusters under a larger tree at the edge of the woods. You’ll find a nice patch along the path below Cow Pond.
