Sneezeweed, Helenium autumnale

I still get tripped up with yellow daisy-like flowers this time of year – there are so many. I’m pretty sure this one is Sneezeweed. The name is misleading, since it doesn’t trigger sneezing. Long ago people dried the leaves and used them as snuff to make themselves sneeze. I’m not sure why anyone would want that, but apparently it was thought to clear the head.
