The 88 species of wildflower seeds arrived like an early Christmas gift. Now we just have to scatter them across the newly opened or burned prairies, savanna/woods and stream edges.
They came from a variety of wonderful seed sources: Missouri Wildflowers Nursery, Hamilton’s Native Outpost, Prairie Moon Nursery, J.F. New, Spence Restoration Nursery, and Everwilde Farms. The first two are the most local seed sources for us (local ecotype). The idea is that seeds from plants that grew locally are more likely tied to the bloom and maturing time of the area and therefore will thrive better. However, the seeds are indeed the same species and some are from nearby states. Some sold by other nurseries actually came from Missouri, too. Now if the temperatures will stay below freezing, we’ll be able to stroll across the bare ground and scatter without bogging down in muck.
