Sweet Coneflower

Rudbeckia subtomentosa
Sweet Coneflower, (Rudbeckia subtomentosa)
Sunrise is only enjoyable time to be out on the prairie when the heat is intense. This morning I found many of these yellow flowers which are called Sweet Coneflowers. They look like Black-eyed Susans but bloom later and grow taller. There are so many yellow flowers this time a year that they are very confusing. I have to rely on field guides. My favorite is Ozark Wildflowers by Don Kurz.
