Viceroy Butterfly

Viceroy, Limenitis archippus

Not all orange and black butterflies are Monarchs. This one’s called a Viceroy. We saw one yesterday as we sat in the shade at the edge Potter’s Lake at the Prairie Garden Trust (PGT).

The way to tell the difference is black line on its hind wing. Viceroy’s are also smaller than Monarchs and tend to be a darker orange.
