Yellow Ladys Slipper, (Cypripedium pubescens)
Paul McKenzie found a rare orchid (Yellow Lady’s Slipper) while he was doing an inventory of plants here last week. Today I went to photograph it. The orchid is on some of the most inaccessible parts of the property. After a lot of hunting I finally found one in full bloom.

Paul is a biologist that works for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. He has some of the best field identification skills of any biologist I’ve worked with.
